Adrienne and I went to high school together while I was living in Georgia. She was on the softball team, ran track was also one of the managers for the boy's varsity basketball team, and she has a degree in Exercise Science. So, imagine my surprise when I found out that her and her roommate/best friend Diamonde founded a new platform to sell books.
Honestly, I was extremely impressed. Our generation as a whole is more concerned about who Drake's sneak dissing on his next song than how we can further stimulate our minds. Don't get me wrong, I love Drake, but who he fires shots at next is not going to help me be a better person.
So, of course I had to reach out to the two and chat it up about themselves and their brand:
How's life guys?
Diamonde: Life is really good; Adrienne: Life is good, but a little hectic for me right now since I just moved to Florida and am a full time student again.
Where are you two from?
Diamonde: Oklahoma; Adrienne: Georgia
Where'd you two go to school, and what'd you study?
Diamonde: University of West Georgia, and studied Business Management; Adrienne: Started at University of West Georgia and ended at Georgia State University, studied Exercise Science
How did you two meet?
Diamonde: We were at a party at UWG and Adrienne was drunk and I came alone. I started up a conversation with Adrienne and we've been friends ever since. Adrienne does not remember this story at all.
Why did you start Volume Twenty?
Diamond + Adrienne: We were both reading a lot and posting what we were reading all over social media. Our followers became really interested in what we were reading and wanted to know our feedback on the books and where we got the books. Over time we just had so many books and decided to start selling them since so many people wanted to read what we were reading, and we were not going to re-read most of the books that we had.
Where does the name come from?
Diamonde + Adrienne: We were trying to figure out what to name our company and suggested words that went along with books like chapters, editions, and then we decided on volume and then the twenty came from the fact that we are catering to people in their twenties.
What all does Volume Twenty offer?
Diamonde + Adrienne: We offer new and used books, a book club, journals, and book related products. We also have a book recommendation form that is very successful in suggesting books for people to read who do not know where to start when it comes to reading.
What do you two do outside of Volume Twenty?
Diamonde: I work in television production, I am an author, and a miracle worker; Adrienne: I am a full time student at the University of St. Augustine obtaining my doctorate degree in physical therapy
What are you guys plans for the future?
Diamonde: To have the number one talk show in the country; Adrienne: To become a successful Physical Therapist treating the top athletes in the world; Diamonde + Adrienne: For Volume Twenty we want to grow our business and disrupt other businesses, such as, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and Starbucks. We eventually want to have our own store. A combination of a book store and coffee shop. A cool place for millennials to go.
If you could change anything about yourself or the world, what would it be?
Diamonde: I would want to be more loving to myself and I would want people to be more loving to themselves and to each other; Adrienne: I would like to learn how to empathize with other people.
